The region is currently amidst a multi-faceted crisis of terrorism, armed conflict, poverty, and political instability which has exacerbated the status of women and girls. They continue to experience various forms of GBV including sexual and physical violence, harmful traditional practices such as forced marriage, verbal abuse and socio-economic discrimination (ie wage inequality). Additionally, only half of these regions in crisis have GBV response services (medical services, psychosocial support, etc) leaving survivors in harms way and vulnerable to additional abuse. As a Malian woman who witnessed armed conflict in the Sahel during the 2012 crisis, I must say that time to respond to this GBV crisis has never been more important. Your generous donation will be used to support JDWS activities to both prevent GBV and to advocate for survivors and laws to prevent and respond to GBV.
